Fashion isn’t just for the runway, it’s a space for creativity, confidence and self-expression! Fashion Minority Alliance recently partnered with award winning designer, Emile Vidal Carr, on a free two day fashion workshop designed to open doors for aspiring creatives of all backgrounds, thanks to our funding from DoItNowNow and City Bridge Foundation.
Young people, aged between 8-18, eager to explore the art of sewing, the process of creating mood boards, styling techniques, and pattern cutting gained an insightful look into the various roles that shape the creative sector. This hands-on workshop was more than just a learning experience, it was a step towards democratising creativity. Our young participants had the opportunity to work with skilled mentors, learn practical techniques and connect with like-minded young creatives who share a passion for artistic expression. Each participant delved into sewing techniques, transformed fabrics into something personal and meaningful, explored how concepts evolve into cohesive visual narratives, and learned how garments and aesthetics come together to tell a story.
Our Little Hands In Fashion workshops provide an invaluable introduction to essential creative skills while shedding light on career paths in fashion, design and creative storytelling. More importantly, the workshop was the first step into the creative industry for our young attendees and gave them a sense of belonging which is crucial in shaping the future of creativity.
Let’s continue building a creative industry that welcomes everyone…because creativity belongs to all!
